Enforced vacation for burglars
Enforced vacation for burglars

Clever building technology keeps thieves at bay during the holiday season

Your suitcases are packed, the family pets are in safe hands – your holidays can start! But for many homeowners this pleasant anticipation is not untarnished: Namely because their absence increases the risk of burglary. In this respect a number of technical precautions, such as automated roller shutters for example, can ensure that the happy holiday mood is maintained and that it is the thieves whose fun is being spoilt.

Fairy godmother watches over the house
Roller shutters that are closed all day, complete darkness in a house at night – a state of affairs that is a clear sign that the residents are away and an open invitation for burglars. Additional locks for doors and windows or an anti push-up device for roller shutters are to be recommended therefore. Cunning burglars are not going to be deterred by these measures, however. A much safer method is that of also simulating the presence of the residents, using timers for example. As if by magic these control roller shutters and lights, and effectively deter thieves.

Intelligent automation systems even outwit criminals who observe the house over a longer period of time. The AstroTec control from elero, for instance, moves roller shutters and venetian blinds each day at a different time, depending on the time the sun sets and rises. Automated awnings can also create the impression that a house is occupied if it is fitted with sensors which react to the amount of solar radiation.

Always a good idea
In this respect the automation of roller shutters and sun protection is not just worthwhile for the vacation period. It also protects the house when you are out at work or decide to take a spontaneous weekend break. Moreover, it replaces the need for energy- and time-consuming manual operation of a roller shutter with a tape or a venetian blind with a crank handle. Meaning you can enjoy the holiday atmosphere all year round.
