How the roller shutter and venetian blind industry benefits from new user trends

Germany now has a new hot topic: Climate protection. What began in February with the publication of the UN Climate Report, will be keenly discussed every time there is an unusual weather development in the future – and will ultimately have an impact on consumer conduct. Not only will mobility have to be totally re-considered, but also another important aspect of life: Our residential habits. High time for the roller shutter and sun protection industry to utilize some fresh opportunities therefore. For climate protection in the home means one thing above all: Saving energy.

Climate protection, comfort and cost savings
Studies reveal that roller shutters can considerably reduce heat penetration through windows. If roller shutters are closed in good time in winter, this lowers the consumption of heating energy, and thus also lowering costs as well as CO2 output. Intelligent controls which automatically lower and raise roller shutters in line with the times when the sun sets or rises are particularly suited to this task. Thus the residents of a property can unite lower heating costs with greater comfort and climate protection. “Automated roller shutters and venetian blinds are the right response to the climate protection trend – and thus an important argument in sales discussions with the customer.” explains Rainer Kunz, Managing Director of elero.

Saving energy the whole year round
Roller shutters do not just keep the house warm in winter. They also provide insulation if there is too much heat – an important benefit that grows in significance if the summer turns out to be a scorcher. Thus it is also possible to save energy in the hot season with roller shutters, awnings and venetian blinds. Namely when just the right type of shading makes air conditioning superfluous or means the degree of cooling can be reduced. To this end, however, it is necessary to have an efficient sun protection system oriented to the actual needs. Such a system can be realized with permanent manual operation or – something that is much more convenient – through automation with sun/wind sensors. The result: Sun protection at the right point in time and pleasantly cool rooms without any effort.

With arguments such as these the roller shutter and sun protection industry can show that climate protection does not necessarily mean accepting constraints. Rather it becomes clear that automation not only benefits the environment but also the wallet. “Saving energy at home does not just mean climate protection but also saving money – and also involves an improvement in residential quality. In scarcely any other area of daily life is a clear conscience accompanied by such personal benefits.” says Rainer Kunz.
