Light shading sensors control roller shutters in accordance with the amount of sunshine, allowing when necessary. Such active response to actual demands meets with the automation wishes of many residents, and above all those who own valuable plants or furniture. These sensors have had one drawback to date, however: They had to be connected to a roller shutter control unit via a cable. Now the developers at elero have equipped the tried-and-tested Lumo sun sensor with radio technology: The Lumo-868 is battery-operated, requires no cables, and is complete with a sunlight, twilight and glass breakage function.
Reliable radio signals on 868 MHz
In this respect, weighing a mere 25 grams, the sensor uses the secure 868 MHz radio frequency – just like all the radio products in the ProLine series. By law the signal duration on this frequency is limited, minimising the possibility of interference from radio or mobile phone signals and enhancing the reliability of the radio transmission.
Suction cup reduces installation time
The “installation” of the Lumo-868 is completed in a matter of seconds: The sensor is fixed to the glass of the window or the door of the balcony or patio using a suction cup, and transmits the measured values to a transmitter, either external or integrated into the drive unit. The roller shutters are then moved automatically in accordance with its settings – or manually using the two keys on the sensor itself. In this respect the Lumo-868 may be used purely to monitor sunlight or as a combined sunlight/twilight sensor. The threshold values for light sensitivity are displayed on a light-emitting diode and are preset in the factory. They may be adjusted quite easily using the integrated regulator.
Sensor for protection against sunlight and burglars
A glass breakage function rounds off the sensor’s remarkable range of capabilities. If the pane of glass is subject to strong vibrations or shock – be this from a wayward football or an attempted burglary – the roller shutter closes automatically. Thus valuable possessions are not only protected against the effects of direct sunlight but also against a break-in.
